Google Business Profile: the free listing you are probably ignoring

Search for a plumber, a café or a physiotherapist in Cambridge and the first thing you see is the map with three businesses on it. That is Google Business Profile, it is free, and most owners set it up once and never touch it again.
What to do once
Claim the listing, choose the right categories, add opening hours, a phone number that rings, the website link, and at least ten real photos of the place and the work.
What to do monthly
- Reply to every review, good or bad, in a sentence or two.
- Post one update: a job you did, a new product, a seasonal change.
- Check the hours are still right, especially around bank holidays.
How it connects to the website
The profile links to the site and the site should link back, with matching name, address and phone number everywhere. Consistency is most of what "local SEO" means. We set this up as part of go-live and remind clients about the monthly bit.
