Your website on a phone: what most owners never check

For nearly every small business we look at, somewhere between 60 and 80 percent of visits come from a phone. The owner, meanwhile, checks the site on a laptop once a quarter.
Five things to check on your own phone
- Can you tap the phone number? It should dial, not just sit there as text.
- Does the menu open, and close? Hamburger menus that trap you are more common than you would think.
- How long does the home page take? On mobile data, not office wifi. If you are waiting, so is everyone else.
- Is the text readable without zooming? If you pinch, it is too small.
- Can you fill in the contact form with your thumb? Small fields and tiny buttons lose enquiries.
Why it matters beyond visitors
Google ranks the mobile version of your site, not the desktop one. A site that is slow or awkward on a phone is quietly losing search positions as well as customers.
Every site we build is designed for the phone first and then widened for the desktop, not the other way round. If yours fails any of the five, we can take a look.
